Andy
and his Greek Bouzouki
Another
wonderful set of Photos of the young Andy Irvine, in a concert with Mick Hanly.
These two made a great team, so surprised they never actually made an album
together, although Andy did play on Mick's ' Black water side ' Album. A special
Thanks to my ol' friend Dieter for these.
I
love this photo, wonderful stuff. It is a classic photo of Andy and his Greek
Bouzouki. I am not sure of the make of Greek Bouzouki he used to play, but he
bought one in Greece in 1969 and he actually gave it to Donal Lunny. I have
seen photos of Donal with a Greek bouzouki and this may very well be the one
that he is clutching to his chest on the cover of the 'Prosperous' album. Wonderful
!
Here
is a photo of Andy and his famous Hurdy Gurdy. The hurdy Gurdy was made by Peter
Abnet the bouzouki maker, I think. I think Andy was also one of the first people
to play the Hurdy Gurdy in Irish music. It is a very difficult beast to control,
but Andy can really make this thing sing.
Andy again here with his Greek Bouzouki, while playing the harmonic. He can
come up with some wonderful sounds with the Bouzouki and Harmonica. In fact
I actually really like the old Greek Bouzouki sound. You can just see mick
Hanly tucked in behind him.
Thanks again for the Wonderful Photos by Dieter.
