Here are some pictures from Andy. The colored ones are taken I think
in 1983 or so at a concert called Irish Folk Festival on tour in
Germany, there he plays together with De Dannan. The concert took place in
Mannheim.
Then again some photos together with Donal and Liam. They were taken I
think
in 1981 at the Ballisodare Folk Festival Co. Sligo.
There I met Andy for the first time. I had just finished my job as a bank assistant, waiting for a place to study at a kind of university. By accident I saw a poster announcing that Festival and I saw that all my favorite musicians were going to play there (Christy Moore, Andy, Paul Brady, Bothy Band and so on).
So, I thought going there would be the right start for my new live ! And
really by chance, I met Andy and we sat down on the grass and he
helped me to correct the words of serveral songs I brought with me. He was
wondering about the verses of "West coast of Clare" and later in
the evening he played the song together with the others of Planxty. We were
sitting in a
crowded tent, outside the rain was pouring down and I felt the tears swelling
in my eyes ! Jesus what a night !!!
Above the entrance of the festival place they had a banner saying "you're welcome here, kind stranger" - words from the "lakes of ponchitrain" - its my motto since then !
The big pictures in black and white were also taken in Mannheim at a
Concert of Andy and Mick Hanly. It took place in a Pub called "Milliöö"
The
Crowd was so noisy the I almost was going to smash someones face !!!
A few weeks ago I bought a cd from SWEENYS MEN !
It's great.
