I have been asked many times what my favorite songs is by Andy Irvine and to be very honest it changes quite often. The top ten on this list are my favorites, each one is a master piece. I tried to keep it to ten but to be extremely honest I couldn't stop, so I wrote down a few more.
Some of these tunes I would love to hear a new version of. Some of these tracks are very old now and when I hear him sing them today, I feel they are even better. Tracks like 'You Rambling Boys of Pleasure', 'Plaines of Kildare', and 'Springfield Road / Aragon mills' have progressed so much that they really deserve to be re-recorded. I have added Aragon Mills behind Springfield road, as I heard him sing these together very recently and feel it works much better than 'Monday Blues'.
Andy has mentioned a retrospective album, and by that I hope he means, reworking some of his old classics. The only thing is I just can not see how you could do a single album for someone like this. It would really need to be a double album to even scratch the surface of the sheer genius of this man.
Anyway, enough rambling he is my best of .............................................Enjoy !
The list of tracks I would love to see re-recorded. 28 down to 18 was a struggle. What do you think?
These are classics, each and everyone of them. I think they could all do with the Rain on the Roof treatment, by that I mean, just Andy with a bouzouki, and mandolin. Maybe even a few bits of Rens backing him up here and there, as he seems to have done so well on this recent tour. This very acoustic album is still my favorite album, and I feel these old songs are crying out to be done this way.
You will notice that none of the tracks from Rain on the Roof are not below, as I feel they are some of the best versions of his songs to date and wouldn't need to be reworked.
Mominsko Horo does not need reworking at all but thought it would have to be in there as Smeceno Horo has had a few versions, thought it would be good to take this one out and dust it off. Close Shave, that he has not recorded yet.

Since putting this page up Christy Moore has put out a 'Box Set', and seems to have been received very well by the public. In that time I also put together a Discography on Andy Irvine and was even more amazed at how much Andy has recorded. When you see it all together like this, it is quite incredible. Surely it is time for Andy to put out a 'Retrospective', and get some of the recognition he deserves.
